Learning to use your Cosco Shifter Multi-Position Folding Hand Truck can be a bit like learning to ride a bike. It might take a few tries to figure out where to place your hands and how to position the wheels. Just like a bike, the Shifter can move faster than expected when folding; please read all warning labels and exercise caution until you are familiar with the buttons and where to place your fingers.
Unfolding
- Pulling up on the handle requires a bit of force, as it is secured by sturdy clasps.
- Once the handle is free, the cart smoothly shifts into a four-wheel cart.
Shifting from Cart Mode to Hand Truck Mode
- If shifting against the floor, the angle might be slightly off.
- Note that you cannot shift directly from two-wheel mode to folded; cart mode is an intermediary step.
- See photos below for a visual demonstration.
Shifting from Cart Mode to Folded Position
- Ensure toe plate is folded closed.
- Push and hold down the "FOLD" button with one hand.
- Lower the cart handle toward the body of the cart with the other hand.
Troubleshooting
- If your Shifter won’t fold properly, check the direction in which the hinge is bending.
- To fix, fold the handlebar down as you normally would to close and apply pressure to the plate. It should correct itself.
Caution: Notice that the larger casters fold flat against the unit. This can create a pinch point as the piece snaps back into place, so please keep your fingers clear!
