Only a handful of Cosco products require a Prop 65 label. These include:
- Gas Fire Pits: Specifically models 87832 and 87835, due to the heavy metals in the burning systems.
- Bridgeport Desks: Model 63072, which have MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) tops.
- Folding Workbench/Table: Models 66721 and 66720, also with MDF tops.
MDF contains chemicals within the glues that necessitate the warning.
Understanding Proposition 65
Proposition 65 is officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. California has standards that are stricter than any other state, as well as those of the US government. In order to sell within the state of California, if a product contains any of the approximately 900 chemicals on the list, it must include this warning. The chemicals used in our manufacturing process are not harmful; it could be likened to chlorine and that’s found in every drop of tap water. The levels we use are very low and well within government set safety levels.
